Elizabeth “Liz” Simko Wold

Elizabeth "Liz" Simko Wold, 94, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at the Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.

Cremation has taken place, and her memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday. Nov. 20, 2010, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel, with burial at Highland Cemetery.

A fellowship luncheon will be held immediately after the graveside services at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish Center. Memorials in Liz's honor may be made to a charity of one's choice. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

Liz was born Jan. 7, 1916, at Vidora, Saskatchewan, Canada. Her parents, Mike and Meri (Elias) Simko, were immigrants from Czechoslovakia. In 1925 the family moved to the Chinook area, later moving North of Havre, where they farmed and homesteaded and then moved to the St. Joe Community.

Liz attended St. Jude Thaddeus Grade School and graduated from Havre High School in 1936. On June 2, 1940, she married Leonard Spencer Wold. Liz was employed by FA Buttrey Co. for 17 years beginning in 1936 and later for Citizens Bank of Montana, now Wells Fargo. She retired in 1973.

Liz was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Her husband Leonard died on Nov. 17, 1973.

Liz had a love for doing volunteer work at the Senior Citizen Center, Northern Montana Hospital, St. Jude Thaddeus Church, the Havre-Hill County Library, blood drawings, serving at elections and Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen. Liz was very active in the St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church and had a love of singing in the St. Jude Thaddeus Choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Meri Simko; her husband, Leonard Wold in 1973; and brothers, George and Joey; her half-brother, Mike; her twin sister, Helen Marzolf; and other sisters, Sophie Clark, Ann Simko and Mary Hiebert Neuwerth; brothers-in-law, Richard O. Green, Pete Hiebert and James I. Clark; her nephews, Billy, Bobby and Ben Hiebert; and great-nephews, Jimmy Clark and Dustin DeBolt.

Survivors include her brother, John Simko; sister, Margaret Greene; and sister-in-law, Minnie Simko, all of Havre, Mont.

Although Liz never had any children of her own, she had the love of many nieces and nephews and their families, Betty Waid, Jim and Betty Clark, Dick Clark, Tim and Ann Marie Clark, Mary and Darel Grossman, George Simko, Becky DeBolt, Susan and Dean Lotton, Cathy and Dave Lambrecht and Patty Simko.
