Hofeldt elected Little Shell secretary-treasurer

A Havre woman has won the election to become secretary-treasurer of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians council chaired by John Gilbert.

The Tribal election committee said Monday that Betty Hofeldt of Havre won the special election, garnering 76 percent of the vote.

The other candidate, Shirley Bollich, received 24 percent of the vote.

Hofeldt will take the place of former secretary-treasurer Robert Rudeseal. She will be sworn in Saturday at the Moose Lodge in Great Falls following a potluck starting at 11:30 a.m.

The election committee also announced deadlines to file as candidates in the next election for the council. The terms of three seats on the council end Jan. 8, and an election will be held that same day.

Enrolled Tribal members at least 18 years of age may pay fee of $35 to file as a candidate, with a deadline of Dec. 1.

After background checks have been conducted and the eligible candidates announced, absentee ballots will be available online at the council's website, http://www.littleshelltribe.us.

Prospective candidates are asked to return their filing fees, with checks made out to Little Shell Election Committee, to P.O. Box 6373, Great Falls, MT 59406. Prospective candidates are asked to include a small biography, which will be posted on the Tribal website.
