The Montana State University-Northern wrestling team was back in Powell, Wyo., just a few days after competing in the Northwest Open.
But this time, the Lights got a team win.
Wednesday night in Powell, the Lights downed Northwest College 23-12 in a dual meet, Northern's first win of the year.
And while MSU-N head coach Tyson Thivierge was happy with the win, he says his team still needs plenty of work.
"Overall, we just didn't wrestle as fundamentally solid as we should have," Thivierge said. "We had some matches where it all came down to fundamentals, and we saw plenty of things we need to clean up.
"Basically, bonus points won the dual for us," he added. "And in those matches where we got those points, those guys stepped up and wrestled really well. But as a whole, we're going to have to be a lot better next week against UGF."
The Lights got big victories against the Trappers from Cameron Neiss at 141 pounds and Anthony Weerheim at 149. Neiss dominated Jake Budd to the tune of a 17-1 technical fall, which started a run of four straight Lights' wins. After Weerheim beat Bobby Robins 6-2, Cody Miller earned a 10-3 decision for MSU-N at 157, while Ethan Hinebauch won by a medical forfeit.
MSU-N's only other win came in dominating fashion as well as Kody Reed pinned Ben Price in 5:19 at 197 pounds to all but put the Trappers away.
Two surprises on Wednesday night came in the form of upsets. Second-ranked Evan Hinebauch wrestled for the first time since suffering an injury in the offseason, but he was upset by Northwest's Nick Petersen, 7-3 as Petersen scored late to hold on for the win. Max Payne lost a close decision to Kiethan Cast for the second time in a week.
The Lights are back on the road on Saturday to compete in the Cowboy Open at the University of Wyoming.
