[email protected]

The council of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians chaired by John Sinclair said Thursday that is has acquired a building for a branch office in Great Falls and has set a date for the election to select three members.

In a statement, council representatives said the Montana government had released funds and the Tribe completed the purchase of a building to provide office space in Great Falls. The council plans to use funds from a grant approved by the Montana/Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council to reopen a sattelite office there.

Sinclair said in June that he believed the state withdrawing the funds for the office was due to security concerns.

In Thursday's release, the council representatives also said that in a recent meeting the council members set Dec. 30 as the date for the election for three council positions for which the terms are expiring at the end of the year.

Nominations for candidates for those seats will be accepted in the Little Shell Tribal office in the District IV Human Resources Development Council building, 2229 5th Ave. in Havre, until Dec. 1 and must be accompanied by a check or money order for $35. For more information, people can call 265-6743, ext. 104.

The next meeting of the Little Shell Tribal Council chaired by Sinclair will be Nov. 20 at 1 p.m.
