Warburton selected as majority whip

The majority Republicans in the state House of Representatives selected a Havre legislator as a member of their leadership.

Rep. Wendy Warburton, R-Havre, was selected as one of the Republican majority whips in a party caucus in Helena Wednesday.

"I'm really excited," Warburton said in a voice message left with the Havre Daily News Wednesday afternoon.

The Republicans selected Rep. Mike Milburn, R-Cascade, as their speaker of the house. He replaces Speaker Bob Bergren, D-Havre, who could not run for re-election to the House due to term limits and lost his bid to take the seat in Senate District 17 to Republican Rowlie Hutton of Havre.

As one of the majority whips, Warburton will work with her fellow whips, Milburne and the majority leader, Rep. Tom McGillvray, R-Billings, to try to pass legislation during the 2011 session.
