Havre's Wagner marches Carroll forward

HELENA (AP) — Former Havre Blue Pony Gary Wagner completed 22 of 31 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns as No. 2 Carroll College defeated Marian University of Illinois 38-6 Saturday in an NAIA quarterfinal football playoff game in Helena.

Chance Demarais ran 24 times for 83 yards and two touchdowns for the Saints (12-0).

Nick Bradford ran five time for 37 yards and a touchdown to lead No. 11 Marian (10-3).

The Saints broken open a close game by scoring two touchdowns in quick succession late in the first half to take a 21-6 lead at the break.

Wagner was phenomenal in the win, not only in the passing game, but with his feet. He rushed the ball nine times for 55 yards, including a 23-yard run for a score late in the second half. Wagner also threw a 24-yard TD pass to Corey Peterson in the second quarter and a 17-yarder to Matt Ritter in the fourth stanza.

Carroll will now host unbeaten St. Xavier in the NAIA semifinals this Saturday at 12 p.m. in Helena.
