Skylights roll past Ursuline

Exactly 24 hours after losing a tough game to highly-touted Fresno Pacific the Montana State University-Northern women's basketball o9nce again showed its resiliency.

Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas, the Skylights won their second of three games at the Las Vegas Shootout, drubbing Ursuline College 83-57.

The win was Northern's eighth overall in a year when the Skylights have played a rigorous non-league schedule while enduring injuries to three key players. Northern wraps up nonconference play tonight with one last game on its Las Vegas trip.

After getting worn down on Tuesday against GSAC power Fresno State, the Skylights showed no ill-effects on Wednesday.

Northern got out of the gates against Ursuline quickly, scoring a season-high 47 points in the first 20 minutes. The Skylights shot a blistering 57 percent from the floor in the first half and made five of their seven 3-pointers during the first stanza to lead 47-19 at the break.

From there, Northern never looked back, despite being outscored by Ursuline by two points in the second half.

For the second straight game, Northern senior Samm Schermele amassed a season-high in scoring. On Wednesday, Schermele poured in a game-high 26 points while dishing out four assists and grabbing seven rebounds. Schermele also hit four of Northern's seven three's in the game.

Overall, the Skylights had four players in double figures. Val Gee scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Courtney Blume added 10 points and seven rebounds and Jordan Bruursema chipped in with 11 points.

Now sitting at 8-8 on the season, the Skylights will wrap up the non-league schedule tonight in Las Vegas against Siena Heights.
