Weather shuts down east-west train route

The weather in Western Montana has shut down passenger rail transportation across Montana, with an Amtrak spokesman saying the passenger rail service should know this afternoon if service can resume today.

Marc Magliari said this morning that Amtrak has not been able to operate between Spokane, Wash., and Whitefish. Significant problems with whiteouts and blowing snow, as well as a disabled freight train, have shut down operations.
