Breaking news: Rowlie Hutton resigns State Senate seat

Rowlie Hutton has resigned from his State Senate seat effective the end of the current legislative session.

Hutton, pastor of Fifth Avenue Christian Church in Havre, said he has taken a pastor's job in Omaha, Neb.

The current legislative session ends at the end of April.

Republican party leaders from Blaine and Hill counties will select a successor.

Hutton was elected to a four-year term in the November election, with an unexpectedly one-sided victory over Democrat Bob Bergren, who was retiring as Speaker of the Montana House because of term limits.
