New dean candidates coming to Northern campus

The hunt for the a new dean for Montana State University-Northern's College of Education, Arts and Sciences, and Nursing has entered another round of on-campus interviews with two candidates on Friday, March 11.

After the application extension that ended last month, Northern's dean search committee looked at 12 new applicants and chose the following two candidates to come to Northern to meet with faculty, students and administration and to tour the campus.

Susan Muller

Susan Muller, the chair of the Department of Health and Sport Sciences at Salisbury University in Maryland since 2004, will have an open forum to talk to people in Hensler Auditorium at 11 a. m.

She started teaching health and physical education in kindergarten through eighth grade in 1981 and at the university level a decade later.

After receiving her doctorate in health education in 1993 from the University of Maryland, Muller became an assistant professor, then worked as an associate professor in 1998. She became a full health education professor in 2005.

Before her current chairmanship, Muller was a director for the Health Education Program, the Masters of Science Applied Health Physiology program and the Health/Fitness and Exercise Science program.

In these positions she helped create a master's degree in applied health physiology.

Tim Rees

Tim Rees, who has spent the past three years as a dean at Aims Community College in Loveland, Colo., will have his forum, also in Hensler, at 1:30 p. m.

Rees completed a Bachelor's of Science in electrical engineering from Ohio State University, which he used working in training at Hewlett-Packard for nearly 20 years, from 1983 to 2002.

He also holds a master's in business administration degree from Colorado State University and received a juris doctorate from the University of Denver in 1998.

After leaving HP, Rees became the vice president/campus director of the University of Phoenix in Seattle, Wash., for four years.

According to his resume, "I was an enthusiastic spokesperson and worked closely with the regulatory boards, Department of Education, Alumni Network, Chamber of Commerce, city governments, and local businesses including Microsoft, Boeing, and Amazon. "

In 2007, Rees moved to Aims Community College, where he managed two campuses — in Loveland and a new one, in progress, in Berthound, Colo., where, he said, "my responsibilities include developing strong community relations, promoting the new campus, identifying key focus and curriculum, working with our master architect to create a vibrant environmentally friendly campus, and developing partnerships. "

Following the tours and meetings on March 11, the search committee will pass along its recommendations from this and the previous batch of candidates for consideration by Chancellor Frank Trocki.
