Breaking Sports: Lights rock Bears

The Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team is moving on. On Wednesday night at the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse, the Lights made 11-of-13 shots to start the game and buried seven first-half 3-pointers in a 91-68 thumping of Rocky Mountain College in the first round of the Frontier Conference playoffs.

The Lights tore off runs of 13-0 and 9-0 in the first half to lead 53-32 at the break. MSU-N also went on a 10-0 run midway through the second half, shot 56 percent from the field for the game and made 12 three's en route to their third win over Rocky this season. Five Lights also scored in double figures, led by LaVon Myers' 20 points. Shaun Tatarka added 19 points and he and Myers combined for nine triples. The hot shooting offset a brilliant 28-point performance by RMC's E.J. Ross.

The win pushed the No. 22 Lights (22-8) into Saturday's semifinal game where they'll host the UM-Western Bulldogs. The third-seeded Bulldogs beat UGF in Dillon Wednesday night. The other semifinal pits top-seeded Carroll against Westminster Saturday night in Helena. The Lights and Bulldogs tip off at 7 p.m. Saturday night in Havre.
