HHS golfers going back to East Glacier

Havre High's Sam Lippy putts during the Havre Prairie Farms Invitational last month.

The Havre High golf teams are already at the halfway point of the 2011 season. And this weekend will mark an important tournament for the Pony boys and girls.

On Saturday, Havre High will head to the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course for 18 holes at the Browning Invitational. The tournament will feature some good team, including Whitefish, Columbia Falls and Lewistown, but perhaps more importantly, it will give the Ponies a chance to get more acquainted with the course itself. Havre has already played once at East Glacier and will do so again on Sept, 24. That tournament will be for berths in the Class A state tournament as Browning hosts the 2011 Central A Divisional Tournament.

The Ponies still have several meets left before they get to the divisional meet, but Saturday's 18 holes at East Glacier will go a long way towards helping them prepare of for the postseason.

Havre is led this season by senior Simon McCann on the boys side. Sophomore Trey Brown has also played well as has Ramsey Drew. The girls have gotten consistent play from Nikki Gabrielsen, Katie Beck and Boston Swensen.

The Browning Invite starts at 9:30 a.m. at East Glacier Lodge Golf Course.
