Christina Mack's tennis career concludes in a very special way

Three-sport athletes don't come along every day in the prep ranks, but when they do, they seem to make an impact in each sport they play. Christina Mack is no exception, as she has made a name for herself as Blue Pony basketball, volleyball and tennis star.

In Mack's four-year career at HHS she has been a key asset to each of the three varsity squads. She gave the basketball team an outside presence with her jump shot and gave the volleyball team a deep defense with her ability to earn the tough digs. And now, coming off of her final tennis season, Mack was the No. 1 singles player for three out of her four years for the Blue Ponies.

Mack is a two-time Central A All-Conference player, and is coming off of her best tennis season of her career, going 2-2 at the state tournament last weekend in a stormy Great Falls.

But now Mack will say goodbye to Havre High and start fresh at Carroll College in Helena. And her contributions on the tennis court and elsewhere will surely be missed.

Here are five questions with a Havre High tennis player who wrapped her career the best way possible.

HDN: What is the most memorable match you played as a Havre High tennis player?

Mack: "It was probably a match at the Helena Invite this year against a girl from Capital High School. I just played well and it was the best I had ever played. It was exciting to just play like I did and to get that feeling you get when you play well."

HDN: What do you think it will take for the Havre High girls' tennis team to get back to a dominant position?

Mack: "It's just going to take the players practicing during the summer and after practices. Even if it is just going to the courts and hitting, it really makes a difference because sometimes during practice you don't get as many balls hit to you as you would have liked. It is just going to take putting in extra time during the summer and after practice."

HDN: How did it feel to have the best state success of your high school career as senior?

Mack: "It felt really good because I was hoping that I wouldn't go two-and-through again this year. It just felt good to win some matches and end where I did because it showed that working hard helps you get better and succeed at state."

HDN: What do you like most about the sport of tennis?

Mack: "I played volleyball and basketball which are team sports and I kind of like that tennis is individual because it is up to me to do better and not the team. I really like that about tennis and it is just so much fun to play."

HDN: What advice would you give to somebody thinking about trying out for the tennis team?

Mack: "I would tell them to just go out and try it and if you try hard you will love it because it is so much fun."
