Laural —Havre Mayor Tim Solomon is calling on Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to continue her experiment of extending summer hours at the Port of Wild Horse. Twice Canadian and American authorities have extended hours for the summer, and twice the experiment has been botched. Despite that, the number of people crossing the border has resulted in increased use of the crossing. Let's keep trying.

Dart — PDL Ventures brought a bad name to the payday loan business, and that's not easy to do. It charged outrageous interest rates and provided poor service to its desperate customers. The Better Business Bureau had its hands full dealing with these turkeys. There were lots of complaints and most of them went unanswered.

Laurel — Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation is closing down PDL Ventures as soon as it can close the books on this sorry chapter in the reservation's history. Good for the tribe.

Laurel — Police in Texas, Idaho and Montana provided a lesson to criminals this week: You can run, you can hide, but eventually you will be caught. David Gonzales, 63, is a suspect in 1981 Texas murder. He fled to Plains where he has been living with his wife in a trailer park and working in the lumber industry. Police did great work in capturing the fugitive after all these years.

Laurel — Volleyball and/or football teams from Chinook, Big Sandy, Chester, North Star and Havre will be representing the Hi-Line in postseason play this weekend. Best of luck to all. Do us all proud.
