HDN Athlete Profile: Nate Welch

Nate Welch is one of many Havre Ice Hawks hoping to grab a state title this weekend in Bozeman. He has been a standout hockey player for Havre, as well as made his mark in baseball and soccer as a junior at Havre High.

Welch and the Ice Hawks have had an up-and-down season but are playing well heading into this weekend's state high school hockey tournament in Bozeman.

Here's five questions with an Ice Hawk looking for one last weekend of fun with his friends

HDN: What are your goals as a hockey player at any level?

Welch: "I really just want to play well with others and make plays happen."

HDN: What is the best part about competing at the state tournament?

Welch: "Getting the chance to show how well you can play against other and the level of competition you play against. It gets pretty intense, the crowds are ok, but if we had it here (Havre) we would have a great crowd."

HDN: What do you think it will take to be successful this weekend?

Welch: "We just need to play well, not get down on each other and score. Everyone just has to do their job."

HDN: Why do you like the sport of hockey?

Welch: "It gets me in shape for other sports, it's fun and I get to play with friends."

HDN: Hockey is pretty aggressive sport, what's the worst injury you have suffered?

Welch: "Well just last weekend against Missoula I got six stiches and messed up my jaw a little bit. A guy wrapped my arms and tackled me from behind, it was a dirty play."
