Chinook council approves weekend of parades

During the end of September, Chinook will be the place to be for parade enthusiasts.

At Thursday night's Chinook City Council meeting, they voted to allow street closings for two parades on consecutive days.

The first parade was requested by the Chinook High School student council for the evening of Sept. 23.

The closing is to allow this year's Sugarbeeter homecoming parade, to take place that evening.

A similar request was also put to the council for less than 24 hours later.

Sugarbeet Festival Manager Rita Surber asked the council to allow the festival, now celebrating its seventh anniversary, to take to the streets for its parade.

The council voted unanimously to approve both requests.
