Sunchild wins Rocky Boy election

The Chippewa Cree tribal council on Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation has a new chairman after an election on Tuesday — current interim Chair Bruce Sunchild Sr.

Sunchild was the council's vice chair before the previous Chair Raymond "Jake" Parker Jr. stepped down amid felony fraud charges.

Sunchild received 45 percent of the election's 771 votes, while second-place candidate Kenneth Blatt St. Marks received 38 percent.

The results take effect when Sunchild will be sworn in on Friday, July 15.
