Pony golf teams perform at East Glacier

For the second week in a row, the Havre High boys and girls golf teams found the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course to their liking.

On Saturday, the Ponies were at East Glacier for the Browning Invitational, where both HHS teams placed high against teams from Browning, Whitefish and Frenchtown.

On the boys side, Spencer Morkrid shot a 92 to finish second overall, while Simon McCann shot a 94 to finish fourth. David Denny placed fifth with a 96,Sam Lippy was eighth with a 99 and Trey Brown was ninth with a 104.

For the Blue Pony girls varsity team, Nikki Gabrielsen shot a 101 to place third, Katie Beck scored a 102 to finish fourth and Dani Murphy shot a 112 to place ninth. Boston Swensen shot 115 and Lauren Scofield shot 152 to round out the scoring for the Ponies.

Morkird and Murphy both shot personal best scores on the East Glacier Course on Saturday.

HHS junior varsity scores were as follows: Ramsey Drew 95, Megan Cline 120, Miguel Ley 97, Daniel Friedi 120, Austin Christiansen 103, Samantha French 120, Chance Pitkanen 110, Taylor McLain 124, Ben McCann 114, Katie King 138, Micheal Bakke 116, Julie Kadrmas 159, Trey Scolfield 117, Jacob Holden 121, Jesse Lieberg 129, Bryce Kinsella 133, Garrett Hentchel 148 and Chase Stolts 149.

The HHS golf teams have another busy stretch coming up. The Ponies will head to Lewistown for the Fergus Invitational on Saturday before embarking on three straight tournaments the following week. The Havre Invite is scheduled for Sept. 17 at Beaver Creek Golf Course.
