MSU-Northern's Kelly Millager lays up a shot in the second half of Thursday night's NAIA women's basketball game at the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse in Havre.
Both the Montana State University-Northern women's and men's basketball teams gave the Dickinson State Blue Hawks a harsh look at what life will be like when DSU joins the Frontier Conference, as MSU-N swept DSU in a pair of nonconference basketball games Thursday night at the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse.
The Skylights jumped all over DSU early en rout to a 70-56 win and a season sweep of DSU. Northern led 42-22 at halftime behind a huge first half from Jordan Bruursema, who finished the game with 20 points and nine rebounds. The Skylight got a big effort from Kelly Millager, who scored 11 points and grabbed seven boards as MSU-N outrebounded the Blue Hawks 34-27. Laramie Schwenke chipped in with 11 as Northern improved to 10-1 on the season.
The Skylights will be back in action next Thursday and Saturday as they host the Duck Inn Classic in Havre.
Things didn't get any better for DSU men as the Lights made a season-high 15 3-pointers on their way to a 78-48 win and a seasons weep of DSU for the second straight year. The Lights (11-2) made seven three's in the first 13 minutes of the game and led 40-20 at halftime. Shaun Tatarka scored 20 points and Devin Jackson added 19, and the MSU-N defense held the Blue Hawks to just 36 percent shooting and one made 3-pointer.
The Lights are now off until Jan 29-30 when they host the AmericInn Classic in Havre.
