What a season for the Lights
Overall Record: 24-8; Lights go unbeaten at home; Frontier's Regular Season Co-Champions; Frontier Conference Postseason Champions.
Game Notes: Northern made 13-of-15 free throws in the final 1:17 of Tuesday night's win in Helena. The Lights' defense also shut down Garland in the second half. The Lights held Garland to three second-half points. Myers, one of Northern's leading scorers took just one shot on Tuesday, but his passing, decision making and his 8-for-8 free-throw performance was as big a factor as any in Northern's success. The Lights joined Carroll in 2001 and Rocky Mountain College in 2008 as the only Frontier teams not from Utah or Idaho to capture the league's postseason championship in the last 10 years. Northern gets the league's automatic bid to the NAIA tournament, while Carroll is a shoe-in for an at-large berth. UM-Western is on the bubble while Westminster is on the outside looking in. The NAIA will announced the field of 32 and first-round matchups tonight at 6 p.m. The Frontier announced its men's postseason awards during halftime of Tuesday night's game, which featured around 300 Northern fans which made the trip to Helena. Jackson, Simpson, Tatarka and Myers all were named all-conference. See Thursday's Havre Daily for a complete story on the all conference list.
