The summer is reaching the dig days, and for golf leagues around town, that means it's time for the playoffs.
Both men's and women's league playoffs begin this week at Prairie Farms Golf Course, and playoffs at Beaver Creek Golf Course and Chinook will also soon swing into action.
The Prairie Farms men's league playoffs start tonight. Teams which qualified for the playoffs include, Independence Bank, Michelob Light, Havre Elk's Club, Prairie Farms, Walleye Tavern, Mariani Insurance, Valley Furniture, Brenda Nelson Associates, Hole 19, Wagner Plumbing, Korb Construction, Patrick Construction, Spencers Hi-Way Bar, Bing-N-Bob's, Stockman Bank and Tilleman Motors.
On the final night of Tuesday night league action last week, Wagner Plumbing scored 25 points to take high-team honors. Kyle Sheppard fired a 2-under par 34 for low gross and Dave Boles was low net with a 28.5.
In the final Wednesday night of men's league last week, Independence Bank scored a stellar 26 points to earn high-team honors. Trent Normandy shot a 2-under par 34 for low gross and Byron Ophus and Lowell Swenson tied for low net with 31s.
Men's league playoffs will run Tuesday and Wednesday over the next two weeks at Prairie Farms.
Meanwhile, the women will also start their playoffs on Thursday night at Prairie Farms. Last week's final night of the regular season saw Tilleman score 23 points for high team. The team was composed of Ali Ward, Tammy Boles, Dayna Springer and Kari Riley. Ward and Mel Gilman tied for low gross with identical 39s and Kim Evans and Dora Wirtzberger shared low net with 27.5.
Northern Montana Hospital captured the regular season women's championship with 183 points. Schubert Agency finished second, followed by D.A. Davidson, Independent Inspection and Havre Heating & AC.
The Northern Montana Health Care Foundation held its 17th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament at Prairie Farms last Saturday. A total of 18 teams gathered for the 18-hole, 4-person scramble and fundraising for the Foundation.
After 18 holes, the Barkus Home Center team took first place in the tournament. The team includes Murray Barkus, Brooke Grosskopf, Thomas Grosskopf and Matt Hedstrom. Second place went to the Dennis and Joyce Donoven team and Bear Paw Credit Union team placed third.
Shari Baltrusch was the lucky winner of the Las Vegas Getaway sponsored by Yellowstone Insurance Exchange RRG in the "closest to the pin" contest. Tom Baker III and Tammy Boles took home a first place in the Derby.
In more tourney news, the Havre Wrestling Club has rescheduled its annual Havre Wrestling Club Scramble. The event was rained out back in May, and will now be held on Aug. 27 at Prairie Farms. The tournament is a 4-person, 18-hole scramble with a cost of $75 per player. To sign up, contact the Pro Shop at Prairie Farms or Bruce Normandy at 265-1549 or 265-7865.
