Saturday night's Taste of Havre was aimed at providing people with some of the great food offered by local restaurants and nonprofits.

People were lined up on both sides of the Holiday Village Mall offering visitors food ranging from Chinese food to popcorn.

Other young people — and a few oldsters — were lined up to get autographs from a group of former National Football League players and other professional sportsmen who were helping out at Taste of Havre, a program aimed at raising funds for athletic scholarships at Montana State University-Northern.

But nowhere was there more enthusiasm than at the table where Webelo Cub Scouts were offering their finest popcorn for sale.

There were several flavors, and visitors got the pitch from the Scout salesmen on how good each one was.

But the salesmen were sure they knew which was the best.

"Chocolate triple delight is best," said Joey McLeod, 11, an expert salesman.

"The best," added Aarron Thompson, who will be 11 this week.

The popcorn is being sold door to door and at special occasions such as Taste of Havre, Aarron said.

And some of the Webelo Scouts will sell on the Internet.

Joey said he is selling to relatives in Spokane, Wash., and Colorado Spring, Colo.

Proceeds from the popcorn sale go toward the many recreational, educational and community service projects the Scouts have, they said.
