Church and state both should aid the poor

Loretta Park's response to "An open letter to Christian legislators: consider the poor" raises an important question regarding who is responsible for caring for the poor. I agree with her assessment that the Christian community founded many institutions to care for the poor and that Christians and churches have an individual and corporate responsibility to care for the poor.
