Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

The high school volleyball season has reached a critical point, and on the Hi-Line, things are really starting to unfold as teams head towards the postseason.

This weekend ended with the Chester/J-I Hawks taking another step towards grasping control of the District 6C East. Saturday in Chester, the Hawks upended rival Chinook . The Hawks swept the Sugarbeeters by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-21 in a critical 6C East showdown.

Brittnee Theel had a huge match for the hawks, totaling 13 kills, 13 digs and four aces. Nikole Wolfe added 17 assists for C/J-I. Chinook was paced by Paige Moxley with eight kills, while Kayla Hanson had four digs and Makhayla Farmer tallied a pair of solo blocks.

The weekend started with another big win by a 6C East team.

North Star Knights swept the Dutton-Brady Diamondbacks by scores of 25-16, 25-9 and 25-21. It was a dominant performance all the way around for the Knights, who are still battling for the top spot in the district.

Bettie Carlon led North Star with seven kills, while Lisa Carlon had 11 assists and eight of North Star's match-high 17 service aces. Shelby Lipp had a pair of blocks and two digs in the win.

Chinook started the weekend strong as well. On Friday night, the Beeters beat the Valier Panthers by scores of 19-25, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-23 in Chinook. It was a solid performance by the Beeters, especially after dropping the first set.

Kayla Hanson and Paige Moxley each had six kills for Chinook. Moxley also had four aces, while Haley Swank had 13 assists and Taryn Norby had 17 of Chinook's 49 digs.

On Saturday, Rocky Boy's struggles in District 1B play continued. The Morning Stars were defeated by the Cut Bank Wolves by scores of 25-11, 25-10 and 25-16 in Cut Bank.

Leah Gopher led the Morning Stars with four kills and two aces. Tennae Singer added 10 of Rocky Boy's 27 digs in the loss.

Havre High JV's beat Chinook

Last Monday the Havre High junior varsity volleyball team played the junior varsity team from Chinook. Both teams played a tight three sets but the Ponies pulled away and got the victory in four sets, winning by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 15-13, 15-4.

The first set went back and forth when the Ponies finally edged ahead with the help of some key kills from Roxanna Jensen. The Blue Ponies lost focus in the second set and therefore got behind early in the set, going down a quick 6-0. The Ponies never seemed to recover, although they came close, the Sugarbeeters ended up winning the set. The Ponies carried the momentum they had got from the end of the second set. The third set was another close one, but the serve of Ellery Bresler was almost unstoppable and the Ponies came out on top in the third and easily won the fourth.

Lainey Chagnon led the team in digs with 23. Aubrea Worm and Lacey Waid combined with 21 kills,11 of those from Worm and 10 from Waid. Jacinta Finneman came up big defensively with four blocks.
