Lights cruise past Western Wyoming

The MSU-Northern wrestling team is now a perfect 4-0 in dual competition.

On Thursday night in Rock Springs, Wyo., the Lights crushed Western Wyoming 40-6, winning every match the wrestled. Northern also beat Western last month in Havre.

The Lights got a 9-5 decision from Riley Miller at 125 pounds, a pin from Hunter Azure at 141 pounds and a 9-1 major decision by Anthony Weerheim at 149 to start things off. Mickey Cheff also won 9-0 at 157, Ethan Hinebauch got a pin at 165 and Jared Miller got a 16-4 major at 174. MSU-N closed out the dual with Kody Reed getting a pin at 184, Evan Hinebauch earning a major 11-1 win at 197 and Nick King winning 8-3 at heavyweight. The Lights forfeited at 133.

"Our second duel in two days proved to be a good one," MSU-N head coach Tyson Thivierge said. "We came into Rock Springs to dual Western Wyoming and took the fight to them. Three weeks ago we faced this same squad and we were a little timid and shy. Tonight, our young men really took the fight to them and came away with decisive victories. We put the pressure on them right away and that was really good to see."

The Lights finish up their Wyoming trip on Saturday at the Cowboy Open in Laramie.
