North Stars compete at Glendive tourney

The Havre North Stars American Legion baseball team had just a few nonconference games left this summer as they headed to Glendive this weekend.

And while the North Stars were riding an eight-game winning streak coming into the annual Glendive Tournament, they went 1-3 against tough competition, and yet the North Stars are still on an eight-game Northern A District winning streak heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

On Friday, the North Stars played two games in Glendive, as they fell to the Glasgow Reds 12-6 and the Glendive Blue Devils 13-5. The loss to Glendive was the third for Havre this season, but like in their two previous meetings, the North Stars played the Blue Devils tough.

Havre picked up its only win of the weekend on Saturday when the North Stars upended Sidney 6-0. Justin Denny and Brandon Smith combined to pitch a shutout for the North Stars. Havre wrapped up play with a 16-0 loss to the always-potent Billings Blue Jays on Sunday.

With the 1-3 record in Glendive this weekend, the North Stars dropped to 16-22 overall on the season, but they remain 11-13 in conference play.

Havre closes out the regular season with four Northern A games this weekend at Legion Field in Havre. The North Stars face Lethbridge in a doubleheader on Friday and Medicine Hat in a twin bill on Saturday.
