Weather Service predicts flooding near Harlem Wednesday

The National Weather Service again updated its flood warning for the Milk River, saying at 11:01 Tuesday that flooding is likely near Harlem by Wednesday morning.

The weather service warning says the river is expected to continue to rise, and is likely to hit 24 feet — which historically has been high enough to flood the streets and homes of Harlem and Chinook — by next Tuesday.

According to the warning, the level of the river was at 19.4 feet at 10:30 a.m. today. Flood stage is at 21 feet.

The flood warning predicts that the river will continue to rise and be near 22.3 feet by Tuesday evening.

Rain and snow showers also are predicted for Wednesday night and Thursday in the Harlem area, with a decreasing chance of showers through the weekend.
