Class B-C State Wrestling: Harlem, Chinook combine for four state titles

The Chinook Sugarbeeters made more history, individually and team-wise, and the Harlem Wildcats did the same. Saturday at the Class B-C state wrestling tournament in Hamilton, Harlem capped off its best season in over two decades with a sixth-place overall finish and two individual state titles. Chinook meanwhile, also had two individual champions and finished ninth overall, but the Beeters were tops once again among Class C only teams.

Harlem had three wrestlers reach the finals, including senior Trent Jones who won a state title at 171 pounds. Jones won back-to-back titles, as he captured Harlem's first individual title in over 20 years last year in Billings. Freshman Teague Jones also capped off a strong rookie season with a state championship at 105 pounds, while Shay Snider finished second at 98 pounds. Harlem also placed junior Colten Dirden third at 135 pounds and Chris Schupe fourth at 140 pounds as the Wildcats racked up 117 points. Forsyth captured the B-C title as expected, scoring 194.5 points. Choteau was a close second and three-time defending champion Glasgow finished third.

The Beeters scored 77.5 points and Chinook made history on the individual front as well. Junior Benjamin Stroh won a state championship at 189 pounds, and now has not lost a single match since his freshman year. Stroh's win gives him a chance next season to go for the coveted four-peat. Jorrell Jones also captured his first individual title Saturday by beating Cut Bank's Brock Calvi in the 215-pound championship match. Cord Anderson also placed third for the Beeters at 189, while Chester/J-I scored 30 points and got a fourth-place finish from heavyweight Ethan Wolery.
