A local Chamber group is offering a formal event in Havre next month — for women only.

The Havre Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors have set Saturday, Oct. 8, as the date for Mom Prom, a fundraiser for the group's efforts to provide events to the community and to be the Chamber's outreach and welcoming committee.

"It's a women-only event, " Chamber Ambassador Bobbie Morse said. "You don't have to be a mom. It's for women over 21. "

The formal event — women are welcome to come dressed in formal attire, including prom dresses, wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and so on — runs from 7 to 11 p. m. in the Olympic Room of the Duck Inn at 1300 1st St. in Havre.

Morse said a disc jockey will be providing music for dancing, the Duck Inn bar will be serving beverages, the Ambassadors are providing free appetizers, a silent auction will be held, and door prizes will be awarded.

She said the event does not require formal attire — women can wear whatever they are comfortable with at the event — but anyone attending is welcome to dress up. Some people already are trying on dresses.

"There are only a couple of formal events around town, I think, and it's fun for the ladies to get dressed up once in a while and feel good about themselves, " Morse said.

The event costs $25, or $20 with the donation of a nonperishable food item to be given to local food banks. Morse said the Ambassadors hold fundraisers every year, to help pay for their activities like hosting Lunch with Santa for local children and acting as chaperones at local events, as well as Chamber business, such as welcoming new businesses and organizations and holding ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

She said this is the first large-scale fundraiser for the Ambassodors, and she hopes it will turn into an annual event.

"We were just coming out with different ideas about fundraisers we could have throughout the year, and this came up, and it just turned out to be a big one, " Morse said.

Tickets are available at the door of the event, or in advance at the Havre Chamber office at 130 5th Ave. ; A Plus Health Care at 220 3rd Ave., Ste. 407; the Havre Daily News at 119 2nd St. ; or the District IV Human Resources Development Council offices at 2229 5th Ave.
