A 1969 Dodge Super Bee, that came down from Alberta for Hi-Line Cruz'n's 25th Annual Rod Run this weekend, heads a long line of Canadian cars on display, with the cars' owners on the right.
Hi-Line Cruz'n Association's 25th Annual Rod Run had an unpredecented international draw this year.
Of the 97 cars registered for this year's show held at the Great Northern Fairgrounds, 15 came down from Canada, more than ever before.
"We usually get Canadians, " Barb Salerno, one of the Rod Run's organizers, said, "but it seemed like this year we got more than we usually get. "
More Canadians have been coming to Havre recently, since the Canadian dollar is nearly equal to the U. S. dollar for the first time since the 1970s.
A lot of the drivers came from in or around Lethbridge, including Fort MacLeod and Claresholm, while some even came from as far north as Edmonton, nine hours away.
One group of northern visitors attributed their presence this year to the advice of fellow Canadian George Bailey, who had come to Havre to show off his 1968 Ford Mustang CS at previous Rod Runs.
"I've been coming down for years, " Bailey said. "It's a good time. You meet some nice people. "
One member of the group he encouraged to attend, Don Needham, had not visited as many times, but certainly had enjoyed when he did.
"We always have a great time when we come down, " Needham said. "We like the American beer, too. "
