Small loses election protest

A Rocky Boy man finally had his day in court on his request to overturn the 2010 primary election for the Chippewa Cree Tribe's council elections, but lost his case in that hearing.

Special Judge Thomas Weathers heard arguments July 8 for Stacey Small, the lead plaintiff who filed a complaint after losing in the primary election, and the attorneys representing the defendants, the Chippewa Cree Tribe's Business Committee and its Election Committee.

In his ruling issued this week, Weathers said the tribe's sovereign immunity protected it from the lawsuit.
