Local Golf Report: More league champions crowned

Two more golf league champions were crowned last week, and just in time.

Summer has decided to hang on and the golfing weather could have been better the last seven days. But alas, all good things must come to an end, and this will be the final golf column of 2011. Hopefully, 2012 will yield just as great a golf season as the last four months have been.

The Beaver Creek Golf Course men's league finished its playoffs last Thursday with Waddell & Reed beating PJ's for the men's league title. Waddell & Reed scored 19.5 points and PJ's 16. Waddell & Reed is composed of Irish Ireland, Paul Dees, Lowell Swensen and Kerry Ward. PJ's was made up of Ron Cooper, Tony Lawson, Nick Turner and Justin Hanley. In the consolation match, Midtown Car Care defeated Triangle 19-17. Midtown was composed of Tom Haas, Rick Ervin, Jeff Healy and Bob Breum, while Triangle was made up of Tyler Huston, Dave Rucinsky, Jack Spitzer and Sam Cassel.

BCGC will hold a 27-hole tournament on Sept. 24 to raise money for MSU-Northern Activity Bus. The format will be nine holes of best ball, a nine-hole scramble and nine holes of alternate shot. Entry fee is $50 per person.

Last week also saw the ladies at Prairie Farms Golf Course finish their playoffs. Northern Montana Hospital defeated Independent Inspection in the championship match. NMH is made up of Patti Nault , Kim Klein, Carol Kulp and Terri Earl, while Independent Inspection is composed of Carrie Kato, Lindsey Kellum, Liz McIntosh and Ginger Zanto. D.A. Davidson finished in third place.

A big congratulations goes out to Havre High's Chance Pitkanen who recorded a first-career hole-in-one last Saturday in Lewistown.
