Relief may be coming to the weary streets of Havre next spring and summer, but the Havre Public School districts will need to make a few adjustments that they are already planning for.
The Montana Department of Transportation will be in Havre to repave a few areas, most notably on 10th and 11th streets which will be repaved from 5th Avenue west past Montana State University-Northern and Havre Middle School to 16th Avenue.
At Tuesday night's Board of Trustees meeting, Superintendent Andy Carlson presented a request from MDT to acquire the land around 11th Street in front of Havre Middle School to widen the road and improve drainage during the project. A small piece of land on 16th Avenue was also requested to store equipment on.
Carlson told the board that the area in question would not interfere with Havre Middle School property or pass the fence around it.
The main concern that the district has, Carlson said this morning, is that the construction will also be taking place right in front of the district's bus garage, just to the east of Havre Middle School.
Carlson said the districts have already been talking to MDT about how to work around this situation and make sure that the state's work on 11th Street doesn't disrupt students making their way to school.
"That's just something we have to coordinate, " Carlson said. "It takes a lot of communication to make it happen. "
