Wintry weather again in the forecast

Drivers navigate 1st Street May 13, 2010, in a heavy snowstorm. The National Weather Service forecasts a chance of snow in north-central Montana today, with more snow possible as a cold front brings frigid temperatures to the area later this week.

Another chance of cold and snow is in the future for north-central Montana, with a cold front bringing a possibility of winter starting today and much colder weather with a possibility of more white stuff later in the week.

The National Weather Service issued a statement today saying snow, possibly heavy at times, and strong winds will continue through the day over the Rocky Mountain Front for elevations 5,000 feet and higher. The snow and wind are expected to extend into adjacent plains by the afternoon and evening.

The forecast from Liberty County across Hill County, into Blaine County and south into Chouteau County includes highs in the 30s today, with a chance of light snow, and lows in the teens and a chance for continued snow showers tonight.

While the weather forecast moderates a bit in the middle of the week, the wind chill values for Tuesday night could be below zero.

The forecast calls for possibly heavy snow developing in the upper elevations of the Rocky Mountain Front late Wednesday, with another chance of snow showers Wednesday evening across the Hi-Line and into Chouteau County.

Thursday, the Weather Service statement says, a strong Canadian cold front is expected to move into the region, bringing much colder temperatures and a chance of snow along with the possibility of high wind speeds.

The forecast for the Havre area is for lows in the teens or single digits Friday through the weekend, with highs in the teens to 20s and a chance of light snow Thursday night through Saturday.
