Barely two days have passed since the Havre American Legion baseball club wrapped up play in the annual North Star Memorial Tournament. Now, the North Stars will head back out on the road.
Today in Great Falls, the North Stars will begin a seven-game road trip this week with a Northern District doubleheader against the Great Falls Electrics, a team which is predicted to be strong come tournament time in July.
The North Stars (8-5, 3-3) come into today's game sitting at .500 in district play, but they are finally getting into the swing of things. Havre played five games in three days at last weekend's tourney inside Legion Field, and three of those games resulted in victories. In Havre's final outing, the North Star bats came alive as they thumped Tri-County to the tune of 14 runs and 13 hits. And for the weekend, North Star hitters Brandon Smith, Justin Denny, Justin Jensen and Mark Vukasin were all productive.
And the North Stars are hoping that production carries over to today in Great Falls.
Havre's pitching, despite being a thin rotation at times, has been outstanding. Smith has been a workhorse on the mound, while Jensen, Vukasin, Gareth Bernard, Spencer Morkrid and Kolby Sukut have all given Havre strong outings. The North Star's fielding has also been a bright spot this season according to veteran skipper Mickey Williams. But as more tough games approach, they'll need to put all three phases together.
The North Stars play their twin bill against the Electrics today at Don Olson Field in Great Falls. This weekend Havre is back on the road for another five games at the Gallatin Valley Tournament in Three Forks.
