The Dance Factory's Jessica Kratochvil, 15, of Billings begins her solo dance routine Friday evening at the Montana's Best Dance Crew competition in the Havre High School Auditorium.

Havre's first Montana Dance Festival was a success, two of its organizers said this morning, although they are planning some changes to make it work more smoothly in the future.

"It went really well for what we had the first time, " Kirt Miller said this morning. "Having never done it, we didn't think out every angle. … Now we've got a year to go (before the next one). "

The dance competitions, held Friday and Saturday at the Havre High School Theatre, were organized to fund helping a child in Havre who has special needs. Frannie Miller, one of the event organizers, said this year's recipient, Keeley Wilson, was at the dance competition and will be at the Kicks @ 6 event at Pepin Park Tuesday.

Keeley, the daughter of Dottie and Stewart Wilson, danced and played the maracas at the competition, Frannie Miller said.

"It was the high point of the night, " she added.

She said the fundraiser will be used to pay for a trip to Silverwood Theme Park in Couer d'Alene, Idaho, for Keeley.

Kirt Miller said that, in the youth competition, a Billings team took first, while a team from North Star Dance Studio placed second and a team from Shooting Star Gymnastics took third.

In the adult competition, Matthew Saylor and Shelby O'Neil took first, while Jamie and Joy Ross took second, and Jed Damson and Cathi Campanella placed third.

Kirt Miller said they will move forward to plan the event again for next year.

"It's going to keep on, " he said. "We've got bugs we've got to work out. "
