Murphy earns major sports title
Amid a myriad of issues at Tuesday night's Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees meeting, from high school roof issues to the effects of budget cuts, there was some good news in the announcement of Havre High School's interim Principal Dennis Murphy achieving the title of certified athletic administrator.
The title is conferred by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association to deserving athletic officials across the country, including only 11 others in the entire state of Montana.
"The CAA program … identifies those directors nationally who demonstrate a certifiable level of both experience and expertise in the administration of interscholastic athletics, " Sheri Stice, chair of the certifying committee, said in the announcement's cover letter. "I am pleased to let you know that Dennis passed the exam with flying colors. "
Superintendent Andy Carlson commended Murphy, not only on attaining the title, but pursuing it himself out of a desire "to better himself. "
"I am extremely proud of Mr. Murphy. Having somebody in our district that is a part of an elite group, it's great for the district, " Carlson said. "He is certainly worthy of the recognition. "
