Wagner stands out at UM Pro Day

Former Havre High star and Carroll College All-American quarterback Gary Wagner is taking steps to advance his football career.

On Monday in Missoula, Wagner was one of many area college football players to participate in the University of Montana's Pro Day. The event featured players from the Grizzlies and several Frontier Conference schools working out for various NFL and CFL scouts inside Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula.

Wagner was one of two quarterbacks to work out for scouts, with Rocky Mountain College senior Kasey Peters being the other. Among other players in attendance were Grizzly star running back Chase Reynolds, as well as Wagner's Carroll teammate, three-time NAIA All-American tight end Bubba Bartlett.

Wagner threw passes for the scouts and also participated in various drills, which are similar to what college players do at the NFL Combine each year. He said he threw the ball very well. He also did a 9-6 broad jump, leaped 31 inches in the vertical, ran a 4.69 40-yard dash, 4.32 in the short shuttle and 6.9 in the 3-cone drill.

Wagner recently completed an outstanding senior season in which he led the Saints to the 2010 NAIA national championship, was named Frontier Conference Offensive MVP and earned NAIA All-American Honorable Mention honors.
