Blue Pony golfers off to a hot start

With the new season just getting underway, the Havre High boys and girls golf teams are already off to a solid start.

Thursday at the Prairie Farms Golf Course in Havre, the Central A Blue Ponies hosted the Lewistown Golden Eagles, Browning Indians, CMR Rustlers and Great Falls Bison for the season opening, 2011 Havre High Prairie Farms Invitational.

The HHS boys grabbed the No. 1 spot with a team score of 382, edging out CMR with 383, Lewistown with 387 and Great Falls with 390. The girls gave it their all, but finished last with a score of 486. Havre finished behind Lewistown with 436 and Browning with 475.

Sophomore Trey Brown led the Pony boys with a 91, while Simon McCann followed with 96 and Sam Lippy followed with 97. David Denny finished with 98 and Ramsey Drew finished with 99 to wrap up the top five.

Other Pony competitors included Miguel Ley (101), Spencer Morkrid (102), Chance Pitkanen (104), Trey Scolfield (108), Michael Bakke (122), Bryce Kinsella (129), Jesse Lieberg (129), Jacob Holden (134), Austin Christenson (134), Kody Hickman (135) and Chase Stoltz (159).

Niki Gabrielson and Katie Beck who both shot a 120 led the HHS girls. Boston Swenson was also amongst the leaders for Havre, shooting a 121. Dani Murphy shot a 125, Samantha French shot a 126 and Taylor Mclain shot a 137.

After a good start to the season, the Blue Ponies have a relatively short turnaround before getting back to work. Monday the Ponies will head to Great Falls for the Great Falls Invite.
