Thanks for donating to help 'Stamp Out Hunger'

Editor:

On behalf of the Havre Food Bank and the people we serve, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the U.S. Postal Service's Havre letter carriers for sponsoring the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive this past Saturday. Nearly 4,000 pounds of nonperishable food was collected and delivered to the food bank thanks to the efforts of our local postal workers.

A record number of volunteers of all ages assembled at the post office making the process of collecting and sorting the food go quickly and smoothly. For the first time in the history of the drive, all of the food was not only delivered to the food bank, but also stocked on the shelves. I would like to thank everyone for coming to help, especially the Assembly of God youth group. Thanks also to John and Abby Ita for transporting the food from the post office to the food bank.

Special thanks to Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for donating the beverages and Russell Getten for donating pizza for lunch.

Once again, the community of Havre has shown their generosity and support for the food bank. The food collected will help us serve needy families in the coming summer months.

If you would like to make a food donation, we ask that you please do so during our regular hours Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or call 265-2007 and we will be happy to make arrangements. When donations are left outside our door, they are often vandalized or taken. In the winter months, food often freezes before we return. Food and monetary donations may be left at the District IV HRDC offices located at 2229 5th Ave.

Once again, I can say I am proud to live in a loving and caring community. God bless each of you.

Penny Velk, manager

Havre Food Bank
