North Stars host Electrics on Saturday

The Havre North Stars American Legion baseball team couldn't have asked for a better start to their season. Now, the North Stars will look to keep it going in the midst of a long home stand.

On Saturday at Legion Field, the North Stars (4-0) will take on the Great Falls Electrics in a single nine-inning, nonconference game. And with only one game this week, the North Stars will look to keep the momentum going.

Havre's season began two weeks ago with a sweep of the Great Falls Stallions in Great Falls. The North Stars then followed up with another sweep of the Stallions, this time coming at Legion Field in Havre on Sunday. And the second sweep came in different ways. The North Stars won with small-ball in the first game, an extra-inning affair, then belted out 14 hits to chase the Stallions in the nightcap.

Havre's bats have been one reason for the hot start, but pitching is playing a key role too. The North Stars have a combined 44 hits through four games, including 13 extra-base hits. The North Stars have also been excellent on the bases, as they had five thefts in two games against the Stallions last Sunday.

But pitchers Brandon Smith, Justin Jensen, Gareth Bernard, Mark Vukasin and others are also holding teams down to the tune of four earned runs per game. The North Stars won't have Jensen's services on Saturday night, as he'll be playing tennis, but Havre's staff is looking solid in the early season, and they should get a good test from the Electrics, who have been outstanding so far this season.

The North Stars' game against the Electrics has been moved to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Legion Field. Havre's scheduled Northern District doubleheader with Tri-County, which was slated for Sunday afternoon, has been moved to July.
