Steiner gets five years for selling meth

A Havre man was sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for selling methamphetamine in Havre.

Christopher Allen Steiner, 25, had previously pleaded guilty in federal District Court in Great Falls to selling meth. Judge Sam E. Hadden Wednesday imposed a 62-month prison sentence, and ordered Steiner to pay a $100 special assessment and serve four years of supervised release following the prison time, the U. S. Attorney for the District of Montana said in a release issued Thursday afternoon.

According to the release, officers from the Tri-Agency Safe Trails Task Force investigated reports of meth trafficking in the Havre area between November 2009 and April 2010.

A co-conspirator told law enforcement officers that he would meet Steiner at locations in Havre four to six times a week to purchase meth, some of which he sold and some of which he kept for personal use.

Task force officers supervised controlled purchases from the co-conspirator on Jan. 7, Jan. 12 and Feb. 2 of 2010, during the time he said he was receiving meth from Steiner.

Another co-conspirator also told officers he was receiving meth from Steiner, and that he had helped Steiner prepare meth on some occasions.

The co-conspirator said Steiner would "re-up" his meth supply every other day, the release said.

Information on any charges filed against the co-conspirators was not available this morning.
