Before heading into the long holiday break, Tuesday night's dual was the perfect opportunity for the Havre High wrestling team to get a little extra work against a beatable opponent.

And that is exactly what the Central A Blue Ponies did, as they took down the visiting Lewistown Golden Eagles at the Havre High gym

nasium. It was a relatively easy dual for the Ponies, as they defeated the Eagles 53-19 in their last time on the mat until Jan. 6.

"We had our lineup moved around a little bit," Havre High head coach Scott Filius said. "But it was a nice dual before the break. And we just moved our lineup trying to get the best matches for our guys."

The dual started at 98- ounds, and 15 matches later, the Ponies suffered five losses while grabbing 10 wins.

"I think we performed pretty good," Havre High senior Kameron Pribyl said. "We have some stuff to keep working on, but we looked pretty good I thought. I think we got the wins where needed them, and the matches we lost, they were against good wrestlers."

Grayson Brenna (98) and Dylan Stewart (105) both won by forfeit, giving the Ponies a fast 12-0 lead. Nate Kennelley (112) added to the lead, pinning Zach Phelps in just 38 seconds. The Ponies were up 18-0 before suffering two straight losses.

At 119 pounds, Dustin Seely overcame a 5-3 deficit with a reversal late in the third period to tie the match at 5-5. Seely forced an overtime, but was taken down by Trei Bulluck and suffered a 7-5 loss. At 125 pounds, Thomas Gruber ran into the very tough Jerime Granot, suffering a 6-1 loss. Gunnar Aageson (130) earned another win for HHS, before the Ponies suffered two straight losses again.

Aageson came out with a very high tempo and controlled the match all the way to a win. He took a 5-0 lead in the first period and then pinned Austin Songer in the second period, earning the fall in 3:05. But following Aageson's win, Braden Dieziger earned a 10-2 major decision over Sundance Lodge (135), and John Chamberlin upset Dillon Seely (140) with a 4-1 decision.

The Ponies still led 24-13 and put together wins in six out of the last seven matches. At 145 pounds, Havre's Jordan Schroeder was pinned by Eagle star Jim Malone in 1:29.

But earning wins for the Ponies, David Borris (152) pinned John Reilly in 1:41, Eli Hinebauch (160) pinned Seth Walters in 1:10, Pribyl (171) earned a 16-1 technical fall over Ethan Blythe, Grant Pattison (189) pinned Jarrett Guyer in 3:14, Casey Schaub (215) pinned Briar Tuss in 2:11 and Dustin Odegard (285) won by way of forfeit.

"Most of the kids in the lineup wrestled competitively," Filius said. "We didn't give up pins and we competed on the edge, I was pleased. It is hard to pinpoint one guy who really stepped up, but the nice thing about Gunnar (Aageson) is that he goes hard and is fun to watch.

"We had those matches at 125 and 140 pounds that we thought we could win," Filius added. "But we didn't win either of those. That was a little disappointing, but that happens. We have beat both those kids before and now they beat us, so now we have to go back to the drawing board."

The Ponies are now off until Jan. 6-7 when they travel to the Cut Bank Invitational. HHS will be at home again on Jan. 24.
