Breaking Sports: Blue Ponies are Central A Champions

Havre High's Brayden Grimson reaches out for a ball during Friday night's Central A championship game between the Ponies and Livingston at Blue Pony Stadium.

It's been a while, but the Havre High football team is officially back on top of the Central A Conference. On Friday night at Blue Pony Stadium, the Ponies claimed the Central A championship with a 54-28 thumping of Livingston. The win gives HHS a first-round bye in the upcoming playoffs, and Havre will play either Libby or Hamilton in Havre on Nov. 5.

The Ponies got huge performances from seniors on senior night. Ryan Brandt scored touchdowns on rushes and a 70-yard punt return which salted the game away. Casey Schaub also ran wild on the Livingston defense while Justin Jensen threw TD passes to Brayden Grimson, including a first-quarter strike. Livingston battled and cut the HHS lead to 12 at 40-28 at the end of the third quarter. But a 50-yard TD run by Schaub, and Brandt's punt return was enough to put the Rangers away. Havre also got big defensive performances from Evan Flathers, Brandon Smith and Eli Hinebauch. The Ponies led 34-14 at half and 40-14 early in the third quarter.
