100 acres burned between Gildford and Kremlin

Around 5 p. m. Monday evening a fire in a field halfway between Gildford and Kremlin and about a mile south of U. S. Highway 2 burned more than 100 acres.

John Muller, president of the Kremlin Fire Association, said that about half of the damaged area held crops. The rest was not being used.

He also said this morning that a combine had started the blaze.

About 50 people came out to help extinguish the fire, with fire departments from Gildford, Kremlin, Rudyard and Hingham responding, as well as assistance from nearby farmers.

Muller said that the fire was extinguished by 7 p. m.
