Warburton out of line

Editor:

Well, dear friends in Havre and along the Hi-Line, we opted for change last election, and we sure got it.

We forgot what political ideology had nearly brought our nation to its economic knees and put them back in power.

Now we see more debacles rising to the surface as a very narrow political viewpoint once again seeks to bend our lives into its blind ideology.

One must wonder at Rep. Warburton's insight as she and her fellow Republicans offer legislation that actually does very little to provide new jobs for Montana, invest in our future or take care of those who can't care for themselves.

All reputable, mainstream economists agree that cutting taxes provides little to create new jobs and instead of cutting, cutting, cutting, what we need is investment, investment, investment.

We used to invest in our people, in new technology, in business and the promise of a bright future.

And, despite what some claim, we've economically short-sheeted public education for many decades; then wonder why it doesn't produce excellence across the board and now in response? Why the Republicans seek to take limited taxpayers' money and put it into private schools. What? We all know alternative energy will play a significant role in our future energy complex but the Warburton crew is trying to short-sheet that future as well.

Then there is the assertion that business is over-regulated. It misses the point. When we deregulate, the greed of the powerful takes over and we all suffer from a huge transfer of wealth away from the average citizen. Currently in the U. S., for example, 90 percent of us own but about 15 percent of the nation's wealth — called trickle-down economics.

The Hi-Line needs wisdom and a fair and balanced perspective that will put Montana and the rest of the nation back to investment in people, technology, education and the future. Not investing in alternative energy development, for example, is not wise and certainly not a fair and balanced perspective.

Rep. Warburton and her ideologues need to go, need to return home and truly come to understand the unfortunate consequences of their limited ideology.

Drop in to the Capitol April 1 at noon and help let Rep. Warburton know she's way out of line.
