Joanne Ann Carry Water Favel, 78, died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Northern Montana Care Center, Havre, Mont., of cancer. Her wake service will begin Thursday and continue through Friday, March 26, 2011, at 11 a.m., at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church with Mr. Kenneth Gopher and Father Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial will follow at the Favel Family Cemetery. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

Joanne was born Sept. 9, 1932, in Hays, Mont., to Moses and Ann (Sleeping Bear) Carry Water. She grew up in Hays and attended school at the St. Paul's Mission in Hays and at Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota. She married Robert Favel Sr. in 1950 in Rocky Boy. Together they made their home and brought up their children in Rocky Boy. Joanne was a homemaker who found great joy in cooking and caring for her family and visiting with family and friends, far and near. She enjoyed reading, beading, cooking, watching basketball games on television, working word puzzles and attending powwows. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Peggy Favel; two sons, Randy Sr. and Terry Sr .; three sisters, Nelly Doney, Mary Ann Kezar, and Kathrine; five brothers, Benjamin Sr., Dailey, Babe, Buddy, and Jimmy; two grandsons, Ben LaRose and Denver Buckman; and one great-grandson, Shooter LaRose.

Joanne is survived by her daughters. Roberta Favel, Joyce Favel and Jackie Favel; sons, Bobby, Billy, Larry and Gary "Charlie" Favel; sister, Shirley White; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
