Herberger's department store in the Holiday Village Mall, is closed for a second day today, after concerns about the structural integrity of the roof under the weight of melting snow drifts.

According to Mary Kerr, vice president of investor and public relations for Herberger's Pennsylvania-based parent company Bon-Ton Stores, the Havre store was initially closed on Sunday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m.

"Yesterday, it was noticed that something did not look quite right in a small section of our store," Kerr said. Monday. "It did not collapse. This is something we do this time of year in our stores."

It was not certain when the store would reopen.

On Monday afternoon, maintenance staff were on the roof shovelling off snow over Herberger's and using a snow blower more on the eastern side of the roof of the Holiday Village Mall, near Sears.

A crew from Clausen and Sons was entering the back of the store with construction materials and scaffolding.

Kyle Harland, an inspector from the state Building Code Bureau in Helena, said this morning that he had spoken with Dave Clausen, who said he had an engineer or two looking at the roof this morning. Harland said he would be in Havre this afternoon to take a look at the roof himself.

Holiday Village Mall Property Manager Chandra Moomey has been unavailable for comment since the store closed.

The owners of the mall, Security National Properties Funding II LLC, have not yet returned calls about the status of the property.
