HHS sends three golfers to state

Three Havre High golfers are off to the Class A state golf tournament this week in Hamilton.

At Saturday's Central A Divisional Tournament which was held at the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course outside of Browning, the Ponies had three individuals place in the Top 15, which qualifies them for this week's state tourney.

Havre High's Nikki Gabrielson (left) poses with head coach McKinsey Rodriguez after she finished seventh at the Central A girls gof tournament Saturday at East Glacier.

Leading the way for the HHS girls was sophomore Nikki Gabrielson who placed seventh overall. In just her first-ever divisional tournament, Gabrielson shot a 101 which put her well within the girl's Top 15, and gave her a first-ever berth in the state tournament.

The Havre High boys qualified two individuals for the state meet. Sam Lippy shot a solid 91 on Saturday to finish ninth overall. Lippy will be joined at state by fellow senior Simon McCann. McCann carded a 96 which tied him for 11th overall. He'll be making his second straight trip to the state meet.

It wasn't as good a day for the Havre teams overall however. Neither the Blue Pony boys or girls finished in the top three in the team standings, which means the Ponies won't be sending either team to Hamilton.

On the boys side, Belgrade finished first with a 340, Livingston was second with a 350 and Lewistown was third with a 381. Livingston's Decker Wilson took home the individual divisional title with a 76. On the girls side, Livingston was first with a 373, Lewistown was second with a 417 and Browning was third with a 428.

Also competing for the Pony boys on Saturday was Ramsey Drew, David Denny and Spencer Morkrid, while the HHS girls sent Katie Beck, Boston Swensen, Dani Murphy and Lauren Scofield as well.

The Class A state golf tourney begins Friday morning and runs through Saturday afternoon at the Hamilton Golf Club in Hamilton.

Note: Individual Havre High scores and final team scores were not made available to the Havre Daily News at press time and attempts to obtain final results from the Central A Divisional were unsuccessful.
