Breaking Sports: Lights beat LC in OT, tie for Frontier title

For the second time in three years, the Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team has captured a Frontier Conference regular season co-championship. And it took extra time to do it. On Saturday night at the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse, the Lights beat Lewis-Clark State 70-65 in overtime. The win gives Northern a 10-4 record in league play and a tie with Carroll College atop the league standings.

Against the Warriors, the Lights led a big first-half lead slip away, and had to survive some anxious moments. Northern led 34-23 at the half behind a blazing start from Shaun Tatarka. But the Warriors battled back and took the lead late in the seocnd half. However, Devin Jackson made key plays at the end of the second half, and two big shots in overtime to get MSU-N over the hump. Tatarka led Northern with 15 points, while LaVon Myers added 14, Joe Simpson had 12 and Jackson 11.

As of Saturday night, the top seed in the upcoming Frontier playoffs had yet to be determined. But Northern will host either Montana Tech or Rocky Mountain College in a first-round game on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
